S90 Heel Spur
The bony outgrowth underneath the medial protrusion of the heel is referred to as a plantar heel spur. This inevitably leads to pain due to pressure in weight bearing.
The latter originates through the irritation at the insertion of the respective musculature (flexordigitorum brevis, abductor hallucis and the plantar apaneurosis).
It is not the size of the spur which creates the intensity of pain; not every spur produces pain and not every pain originates at the spur - but more so is the result of an inflammatory reaction caused typically by the excessive weight bearing syndrome.
Thus, foot deformities themselves foster the outgrowth of heel spurs in addition to excessive body weight. The use of special insoles such as these, has proven therapeutic value.
