Salts relaunches killer footwear
05 December 2008
Shuform is giving an entirely new meaning to the term ‘killer heels’, a term more likely to be associated with stilettos than hospital footwear.
The range, manufactured by Salts Techstep - our orthotics division - has relaunched the popular range, the linings of which are now being coated with particles of silver to help in the fight against the spread of infections such as MRSA in the hospital environment.
Salts' Senior Product Manager, Adrian Priest explained: “Silver has been known for its antibacterial properties for thousands of years and even at low concentrations it has been shown to be capable of killing off more than 650 disease-causing organisms. While much is already being done in hospitals to combat so-called super-bugs, this is another important step forward in that battle. Patients wearing Shuform footwear during hospital stays will not only experience total foot comfort, they will also be helping to protect themselves and others against infection.”
The Shuform range includes a slipper that is designed for use following surgery when the foot is bandaged or swollen or where a condition prevents the use of normal footwear. Also in the range is a lightweight shoe which provides a firm sole and heel to aid mobility and is ideal for patients with painful foot conditions, an orthotic felt boot which has a wide steel shank in the base which allows for the use of additional appliances, and the unisex, multi-fit mediboot. In addition, Shuform offers a Comfort Shoe for outdoor as well as indoor use.
